** NEW News from the Chair **

Ladies although we are already in February the year is still relatively new.
Last month I was, as I am sure you were too, very excited about the prospect of 2010 being a year of business growth plus personal and professional development. However it will not be without its challenges in all manner of disguises and its how we deal with those challenges that will very much determine our future feelings and approach to the next opportunity that life throws at us.

That is where FODBWA steps in and can help. A few months ago I said that for what ever reason you come along each month to lunch, you are most welcome. It may be you work from home in the back room and you want to come purely because you are fed up talking to the dog or cat and want to have some other conversation and socialising. It may be that you are looking for new contacts or want to have a collaborative relationship with a colleague in a similar business to you. It could be to ask for help with a situation or problem you are facing, or you want to give some business to someone. Or you just may want to come for the chocolate puddings as I know one member does!!!!!!
What ever it is FODBWA started life 6 years ago as a support for both fledgling and established business’s and is here for you today just the same.
Please do ask for help when you need to, we are all too willing to make the journey just that little bit easier by sharing the load. Also if you know anyone who has just started, got a business idea or been in business a while, do invite them along to see if we can be of any help to them.

As you are aware we took a committee decision to cancel this months lunch due to the snow. Thank you to those who booked as it meant we were able to contact you; however it did mean that we did not hear the golden nuggetts from  the lovely Kay Julian from Welcome Space who was going to show us how to literally create an effective work space and why it is so important in our business, but she has promised to come back later in the year.
Our speaker for the March 18th lunch is the dashing John Sherahilo from Thomson and Bancks Solicitors who will be exploring how “Divorce can seriously damage your wealth”. John will explain how it effects the person and their business. Even if this does not effect you directly you may learn something to help a friend or work colleague and it will no doubt prove to be informative and enlightening.
We very much look forward to seeing as many of you as possible, if you have not been for a while we have missed you!!!!!
See you soon.

Financial Advice for Women - Newsletter from Teresa Owen

Teresa Owen

Financial advice is a male dominated world and, historically, the man in the household has taken control of the finances.  Many women find finances scary, either because they’re uncomfortable with figures or someone else has perhaps looked after the money side of things for them.  But, finances don’t have to be frightening.

Please click here to read Teresa’s newsletter and details of the services if you find yourself having to seek financial advice for the first time.

There are some important changes to pensions starting next year.  The changes to State Pension Age will have a major impact on women, in particular.  For more details of these changes and how they may affect you, click here.
